Maracatu performers take part in the opening of the 2010 multicultural carnival of Recife at the Marco Zero on February 12, 2010 in Recife, Brazil. “Carnival Interludes” is a search for moments somehow suspended between celebration and a subdued unwillingness to take part in it. When revellers, despite their costumes, musical instruments, dancing and the scenery are suddenly alien to the surrounding revelry. Its about something on their eyes, their shadows, the way they walk and smile, even their dancing, that drives the viewer from the festivities to the person in it. A person that could be in any place but the place of carnival. (Photo by Gabo Morales)
